Works perfectly. From a lot of internet searching I had read that this seems to be one of the only adapters currently in existence that allows an old Apple LED Cinema Display (non-Thunderbolt) to work with the new MacBook Pro, and indeed it does, so I’m very happy.
I am so pleased to report that it works. I have a new (late 2016) Macbook Pro — the one with only 4 usb3 ports. Apple doesn’t make anything that can connect it to their own Apple Cinema Displays (now discontinued). When I discovered the problem, I went to the Apple Store but they were baffled and said I needed a new monitor. Apple’s USB3 to thunderbolt connecter doesn’t work (miniport is same size as thunderbolt but not backwards compatible). I combed the internet for a solution to the problem and found your product recommended in a grumpy review of the Pro in Macworld. I ordered it and it works!! You should try to get your product listed in the Apple Store — I am guessing that there are a lot of new Pro/old display owners frustrated by this problem.
I am SO pleased to find that this adapter does successfully connect my MacBook Pro 13" with Touch Bar to my circa-2010 27" Apple LED Cinema Display (which has a hard-wired MiniDisplayPort cable, NOT Thunderbolt). It works perfectly.
I can confirm this works fine with a late 2016 MacBook Pro hooked to a 30" Dell monitor. Seems well made.
Have a 2016 MacBook Pro, of course the Apple adapter did not work to go to my Dell DisplayPort monitors. The confusion is that the adapter that Mac sells is a USB-C to thunderbolt adapter..... thunderbolt and mini-displayport unfortunately have the same shape plug so people think they are interchangeable. So if you use this, you are getting the display adapter, not the thunderbolt adapter. That's why this works for DisplayPort monitors.
Tried multiple adapters to get my 2016 MacBookPro to work with my 27" Apple Cinema Display that has a Mini DisplayPort connector (not the Thunderbolt model, the previous one that looks like a Thunderbolt connector but it really isn't). This adapter did the trick!! If you are trying to get a Mini DisplayPort connector to work with a USB C port on a Mac, this should do the job!
Works as advertised for the new MacBook Pro with TouchBar (15 inch) paired with LED Cinema Display 27 inch (the one that has Mini Display port cable, USB cable, and the MagSafe charger). Which means that it's Thunderbolt 3 compatible.
This adaptor did work as a USB-C to Display Port adaptor for my NEC SpectraView PA series display. The more expensive version from Apple did not. I'm impressed with the overall quality for the price paid and thrilled I can use it with my new MacBook Pro.
Only tried it briefly, but so far it works as advertised. I think people complaining that it doesn't work are trying to connect thunderbolt displays, which use the same connector as mini DisplayPort. This adapter probably doesn't support thunderbolt. It does support mini DisplayPort as advertised, though. I can confirm that this works with an Apple Cinema Display.
This is the ONLY solution that I have found that works to connect a late-2016 MacBook Pro to an Apple Cinema Display LED 24." The other solutions I have tried involve using cables that are unidirectional and don't work in the direction they need to work in order to solve this Apple incompatibility issue
